1987 – 1991 included standalone contracting.
DataSaint had 10 shareholders at the time and each was responsible
for his own customer base. The PC was
non-existent and a worldwide change in focus took place when the ARCNET concept
was developed. The first LAN was born
allowing us to connect and share.
Shortly afterwards the first PC was released with the Microsoft DOS
system but it took a few years to be considered as a serious business tool to
resolve computing requirements. We had company offices in Val de Grace,
Pretoria, during this time but it was mainly used for meetings and social
gatherings as all development was done on site at our clients.
1992 –
1998 saw the expansion of our development to include CA Clipper and the SQL Server
on a Unix operating system platform. Our
first corporate client was taken on board in the Agricultural Chemical industry
and the first version of our standardized business system was developed. We joined the Developers Conference in San
Francisco at the time to find software development tools with the result that
we created our own Toolkit software used to standardize our application
development of the next few years.
1998 – 2007 saw the
development of MAgIC, which was mainly developed for the mining industry,
using Microsoft SQL Server relational database and Delphi as programming
language. Further development of the
MAgIC system took place after implementation at various mines throughout
South-Africa and Botswana. Alternative versions of MAgIC were developed for the
Textile and Leather industry and agricultural chemical industries. At this
stage the business administration department came about and we moved away from
running the company on spreadsheets to installing MAgIC for our own in-house
use. MAgIC was sold as a turnkey solution to the variety of clients with
separate functionality developed for each client leaving us with multiple sets
of the same application with varying functionality.
Consolidation of the various MAgIC system implementations took 3 years and many thousands of man hours to complete and the first full-function DeltaERP system was installed in November 2010. We expanded our office space to include an extra floor in the Wapadrand Office Park to accommodate the growing number of employees. Our customer base in the Mining industry grew exponentially and our focus changed to concentrate our development efforts on the mining industry. A strategic decision to re-arrange our internal departments to provide a more structured development chain and QA department turned out to be a turning point in our company history.
The decision to diversify the products we offer,
inspired the development of ppe2go in collaboration with one of our key clients,
which proved to be the beginning of an exciting new product drive and sales
offering. We then appointed our first
Sales and Marketing team to focus on the marketing and selling of our ERP
system. Our website was designed and created in 2012 with the intent to
expand our business internationally with our major focus on the junior mining
businesses in Sub-Saharan Africa.
At DataSaint we
