can either be improved, or additional PPE can be applied to ensure a safe work
environment.
- Industry safety guidelines should be researched often. These are changed from time to time and by ensuring you stay updated, some safety risks may be prevented.
- To ensure employees apply the safety equipment they receive correctly, periodic product training is required. It can also help employees understand why the safety equipment they wear is important. This may result in fewer incidents.
- Employees should be briefed on how to identify signs of wear and tear which may weaken the protection ability of the item. Replacement items will be required in cases where PPE have been damaged in such a way that compromises its safety.
- It is important to notice that some PPE items have expiration dates. The expiry date applies irrespective if the item has been used or not. These items include hard hats, safety harnesses, safety footwear, etc.
- Research has shown that stickers used to display information, such as an expiry date, may react with the item and the quality can be affected. Rather look for safety equipment with painted or embossed information where possible.
- It is important to keep track of PPE issues and have comprehensive reporting tools readily available. These will be useful to assist during SHEQ incidents.
